April 28, 2022 Lead Us Not

Greetings to All! The end of April is approaching.  Spring is slowly slipping away while Summer takes over.  Students will be on Summer break and my son is coming home!  Air, land and sea travel will be busier than ever dealing with the volume of travelers who were stuck in the pandemic during the past two years!  This week, France elected their next President,  Elon Musk is trying to create a free speech platform by taking over Twitter, and the U.S. launched a Uniting Ukraine Program to welcome 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.   Next month, we celebrate Boy's Day, Mother's Day and Memorial Day.   On the personal level, I know that we all have individual challenges to navigate every day.  Like it or not, we are a part of this non-stop and ever-evolving  world.  Many things can distract us from walking this narrow road.  What is your cornerstone and anchor at every single turn to avoid falling into temptation or being dev...

April 21, 2022 Give Us Today Our Daily Bread

Aloha!  Hope you all had a fabulous Easter weekend celebrating the greatest reversal in human history................Jesus resurrecting from the dead!  After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples over a period of forty days and was taken up to the sky before their very eyes.  Suddenly, angels of the Lord said to the disciples that this same Jesus, who has been taken into heaven, will come back in the same way (Acts 1:1-11).  This is a historical fact, recorded and witnessed.  Hallelujah! During his ministry on earth, Jesus taught his disciples to pray the Lord's Prayer.  We've covered some big topics, such as our Heavenly Father adopting us into His family and God's kingdom come.  This next phrase takes a dramatic turn as Jesus taught his disciples to pray for bread.  Yes, bread.  "Give us today our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11 NIV).  Let's watch the video  Our Daily Bread  to reflect on this prayer. Discussion...

April 14, 2022 Psalm 77 Asaph's Prayer Formula

Excerpts from Psalm 77 NLT 4 You don’t let me sleep.      I am too distressed even to pray! 19 Your road led through the sea,      your pathway through the mighty waters—      a pathway no one knew was there! 20  20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep,      with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds. Asaph is a poet/temple singer.  He is one of the original worship leaders!   He leads us into God’s presence through his psalms.    Asaph offered some strategies in prayer in Psalm 77.  He did not start out in high spirit when he came to the Lord, but he was honest to himself and honest to God, pouring out his heart and emotions, thus he ended his intimate time with God on a high note!  Here is his prayer formula: Part A . Expose your vulnerability to God in earnesty.  Connect your emotions with Him.  (v 1-9) Part B. Transition your attention to ...

April 7, 2022 Thy Kingdom Come

Aloha brother and sisters in the Lord!  We are going to continue to study the Lord's Prayer today.  When I was growing up praying the Lord's Prayer in school, I had the hardest time understanding what "Thy Kingdom Come" means even though I grew up in a British colony and went to a British school where portraits of Queen Elizabeth II was highly recognizable.  Kings and kingdoms seem to be a part of history.  Is the Bible irrelevant and outdated?  Today's video will help us who live in democratic America unpack the meaning behind this phrase of the Lord's Prayer.  Please watch  Your Kingdom Come  by Chase Replogle from RightNowMedia. Discussion:  1. How is your prayer life this week?  Any room for improvement? 2. What is the difference between a kingdom and a democracy? 3. If we were created to live in a kingdom with Jesus as our King, what changes need to take place? 4. Why is it dangerous to pray "Let your will be done"? Take Home...
