September 27, 2022 The Character of God - Compassion

Today's Video: The Character of God:  Compassion  from the Bible Project What does it mean for God to be compassionate? Let’s take a look at the Hebrew word for compassion, rakhum.  Interestingly, this word is related to the Hebrew word for womb, rehkem. This correlation helps us understand that compassion is a powerful way to describe the strong emotional bond between a parent and their child. And it’s the first word God uses to describe himself in Exodus 34:6-7.  God is portrayed as a compassionate parent all throughout Scripture. And when we come to the story of Jesus, we see him embody the compassion of God. Jesus compared his feelings for people to that of a mother hen’s care for her young. And he suffered and labored so that many could live through him. Jesus demonstrates what God’s compassion looks like, and his followers are called to display that same compassion for one another. Reflect : 1. How do the following passages portray God’s compassion? Isai...

Leave A Legacy - Weeklong Devotion

What might it look like for you to take a moment of blessing from God and turn it into momentum that, going forward, will bless others as well? This week's video: How Do You Build A Legacy by Mark Zschech Genesis 12:1-3 details God’s remarkable charge to Abraham to set in motion a legacy that would change the world forever. Mark highlights five ideas from this passage, to galvanise us to leave legacies of our own.   Firstly , the King and His Kingdom must be first in our lives. Abraham was challenged to forsake the many false gods he and his family were worshiping. Similarly, we can forget about leaving a legacy if we’re putting anyone or anything other than Jesus on the throne of our lives ( Matthew 6:33 ). What competes for first place in your life? Your family? Your career? Your bank account? Your comfort? Netflix? Your busyness? What practical step could you take this week to forsake that idol or distraction, and focus on God?   Secondly , a journey of obedience...

September 20, 2022 How To Pray for Your Neighbors

Dear Sisters, We pray for others because we want to bless them.  A simple way to pray for people you care about is to use the B-L-E-S-S acronym. B - Body: Pray for good health, protection, and strength.  L - Labor: Pray for their work, their ministry, and their financial security.  E - Emotional: Pray for emotional health and good quality of life; for joy, peace, and hope.  S - Social: Pray for loving relationships with their family and friends.  S - Spiritual: Pray for their salvation, that they will come to know Jesus and walk with God. What does the Scriptures tell us about B.L.E.S.S. 1. Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. (3 John 1:2) 2. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. (Psalm 90:17) 3.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and ...

September 8, 2022 Misunderstood Passages

Hi sisters and brother, Do you know some of the most commonly misinterpreted passages in the Bible?  Here is one from Colossians 3:15 which says " Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts...".  What is the context and meaning of this verse and how to apply it and not apply it in your everyday life? Today's video by Sean McDowell:  Misunderstood Verse Colossians 3:15 Peace in Greek is the word "Eirene" which means  the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is.  Therefore, peace is not a vague and subjective feeling, but a concrete promise. 1. Like Abraham ( Hebrews 11:8 ), God doesn't give you and me all the information we feel we need to make important decisions.  Through His Word, His people, and the Spirit's leading, God often gives us clarity about one step at a time.  He gives us the wisdom to discern "the next right thing...
