Excerpts from Psalm 77 NLT
4 You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray!
19 Your road led through the sea,
your pathway through the mighty waters—
a pathway no one knew was there!
20 20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep,
with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.
your pathway through the mighty waters—
a pathway no one knew was there!
20 20 You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep,
with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.
Asaph is a poet/temple singer. He is one of the original worship leaders! He leads us into God’s presence through his psalms. Asaph offered some strategies in prayer in Psalm 77. He did not start out in high spirit when he came to the Lord, but he was honest to himself and honest to God, pouring out his heart and emotions, thus he ended his intimate time with God on a high note! Here is his prayer formula:
Part A. Expose your vulnerability to God in earnesty. Connect your emotions with Him. (v 1-9)
Part B. Transition your attention to how he wrote your story. Tell your story to yourself to be reminded of His faithful deeds. (v 10-19)
Part C. Celebrate your relationship with Him; remember who you are to God. (v 20)
Discussion:
1. What keeps you awake at night that you wish would change?
2. Now turn your focus on how he championed your story. How has God display his mighty deeds in your life?
3. Who are you to God? Who are the Moses and Aarons that He has placed in your life? Are you a Moses or Aaron to someone else?
