July 21, 2022 God's Love for the Prideful

Dear beloved: A friend from Kauai texted me on Monday announcing his 35th wedding anniversary.  I was so thrilled to congratulate him and his wife.  Later, he sent me a picture of a somewhat fancy glass bowl.  I asked him what it is and he said that it is the wedding gift that I gifted them 35 years ago!  I was so elated to find out that they not only kept the bowl but are using it regularly to serve fresh fruits!  I realize that friends in Jesus share an unbreakable bond.  Such a heart-warming story to share with you, my friends!  We have a special bond in Jesus.   Last week, we looked at God's compassion for the rebel through the prodigal son.  Today, we continue to study the same passage, but we turn towards the older son, discovering God's love for the prideful. July 14, 2022 God's Love For Rebels

Hey Friends, Have you ever learned something well but ended up not following what you learned?  It happened to me on Sunday when I almost burnt down a building!  We were clearing the storage of a rental property when I discovered my matchbox collection in the storage closet.  It's been sitting there for decades and finally, I was emotionally ready to discard them!  So without thinking of wetting the matches before tossing them, we slid the whole box down the trash shoot.  Seconds later, smoke started coming up to the trash room.  We grabbed a fire extinguisher, hurried down to the dumpster, and called 9-1-1 all at the same time!  Sure enough, we saw flames!  A small fire began in the dumpster probably caused by the friction and heat of the matches when they were sliding down the trash chute.  Fortunately, we were able to extinguish the fire within minutes and the Fire Department came to inspect the dumpster to ensure that all was clear. ...

July 7, 2022 Share the Love of God

Dear Beloved: How was your July 4th?  Mine was great although HECO gave us a little surprise in the middle of the day!  Peter and I came home from a little grocery shopping.  While I was heating up lunch, the microwave suddenly stopped and the kitchen light went off!  Well, that was the beginning of a four-hour power outage!  Fortunately, my lunch got heated through and I had a hiking date immediately following lunch.  The power outage resumed just before 5 pm when I returned home, thus, dinner was not disrupted!  Whew!  By the way, Kathy experienced the pitch darkness in the garage and texted me to give me a warning.  Thanks Kathy! Power outage is usually associated with lights out... pitch darkness.  It's hard to imagine my house with no lights.  It's even harder to imagine a world with no lights!  We've been called to be the light of the world.  We are called to shine our light, or Christian influence and hope, t...
