May 26, 2022 Significance - Beyond Success

Dear Friends, Memorial Day is coming soon.  It is observed on the last Monday of May in memory of those who gave their lives in the nation's wars.  At the Arlington National Cemetery, during the moment of remembrance at 3 p.m., one long whistle is sounded in honor of those who have died in service.  Do you know that traditionally, American presidents give a Memorial Day speech at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  A large number of unidentified remains lay rest at the Tomb of the Unknown; many are from the days preceding "dog tags" worn by soldiers.  Even though names remain unknown, these soldiers' sacrifice was significant  and they are not forgotten.  Significance typically results from adding value to others.  Success, on the other hand, is associated with adding value to me.  Successful people are ladder-climbers while those who pursue significance are ladder-builders.  Last week we read Matthew 6:19-21 which talks about two ...

May 19, 2022 Intentional Living

Dear beloved, I've got a question for you!  Do you agree that, "our intention creates our reality?"  Read it again before you answer.  Hold that thought while we watch John Maxwell talk about intentions and we will reflect upon the subject after the video:  Good Intentions Aren't Enough To Make A Difference Reflection : What is your answer to my opening question?  Do you agree that "our intention creates our reality"? Simply put, intentional living means to live on purpose or live deliberately with an aim in mind.  It is not random or reckless living.  Even when you rest and do nothing, it is deliberate.  As some people say, know your why, and you will live with little regret.  Let's examine three areas of intentional living. Be intentional about your walk with God (Proverbs 3:5-8) Your relationship with God is truly your most important priority in this life.  It is the foundation on which you build everything else. When God is in charge...

May 12, 2022 The God Who Sees Us

Aloha Friends, Do you FaceTime?  Every Monday, my sister and I would FaceTime my mom to catch up.  Mom always makes time for us and we would talk for an hour about everything... family, weather, recipes, prices of groceries, politics, C-dramas and K-dramas.  Mom doesn't dominate the talking.  She would let us talk while she listens and chime in occasionally.  However, one thing she insists is that we show our faces on the screen.  She wants to see us!  She would protest if we walk away from the device or if the lighting is not good enough for her to see our faces!  Ever since Apple invented FaceTime, phone calls are no longer acceptable.  FaceTime has become our family's standard for communication! Ever consider " seeing " a person as a key component of active listening?  Let's watch John Maxwell's video  Become An Intentional Listener .  As you watch, take note of anything that resonates with you, and enjoy the humor ab...

May 5, 2022 A Definition of Success

Aloha ladies, This weekend, people all across the world will celebrate Mother's Day.  My sister paid a surprise visit to my mom and will spend two weeks with my parents.  I sent an interactive Mother's Day card to Mom 2 weeks ago.  It is one of those that will light up and play music with the press of a button.  I asked mom to press it once a day until Mother's Day to remind her how special she is!  Moms are special because they are the backbone of every child's success!  Our mom nurtures and guides us from day one; infusing hopes and dreams into our lives through her  approvals and disapprovals --her words and actions.  Every mother wants her child to be successful.  What is your definition of success?  Is it anything similar to John Maxwell's definition: "Success is having those who are closest to me loving and respecting me the most."  Therefore I must finish well: I will be better on the inside than the outside (character...
