January 7, 2024 What Did Jesus Say and Do?

Ice-breaker... Pick one of the following "2024 Year In Review" questions to ponder and share with the group on Tuesday: Today's Lesson: Watch Video 3  What Did Jesus Say and Do? Answer the following questions: 1) J.D. mentioned that sin distorts our view of God. But as a teacher, Jesus teaches us the truth about God.  Share an important truth about God that shaped your life today. 2) Jesus’s second role was as a miracle worker. What are the major differences between seeing Jesus’s miracles as raw displays of power versus redemptive displays of power? 3) The last of Jesus’s roles is that he was a deliverer, delivering us from evil demonic influences. Read Luke 4:31–37.  What do you notice about Jesus’s power over the demons in this story and how might that relate to you? Concluding question: What do you need the most? Jesus as a teacher, miracle worker or deliverer?

Nov 26, 2024 Why Did Jesus Come?

Watch Session 2's Video:  Why Did Jesus Come? Review last Session In our last session, we explored the question, “Who is Jesus?” We touched on the reality that Jesus is the “God-man”—he is fully God and fully human. Since Jesus is fully human, he understands us. He’s shared in our pain, weakness, and limitations and sympathizes with us.  Because Jesus is God the Son, he can—and has—overcome the weaknesses that he willingly took upon himself by becoming a human. Jesus has redeemed us, and he has the power to deliver us from temptation.   Discussion Why did Jesus come?  Jesus came to announce and accomplish the gospel, which is the good news that through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus rescues us, reigns as king, and leads us into the eternal life we were created to enjoy. 1. While other religions are spelled “DO," that is obey and be accepted by God, Christianity is spelled “DONE,” which is the other way around. How does this help you understand the gr...

November 19, 2024 Who Is Jesus?

WATCH VIDEO  SESSION 1: WHO IS JESUS? OPENING 1. The most “audacious claim” that Jesus made about himself is that He is fully man and fully God (John 10:30 and Philippians 2:6-7).   2. The central claim of Christianity is that God became a man so that He can enter our world to rescue us.   DISCUSSION To help us grasp the significance of God the Son becoming a man, J.D. used an ant illustration to show that God had to do something radical to save humans—he had to become a human.  What does the fact that Jesus became a human reveal about our inability to save ourselves? Jesus, during his time on earth, took “the loftiest name of God in the Old Testament”—I AM—“and claimed it for himself, attach[ing] that name to our greatest places of brokenness and need.” Read John 6:35: To those who hunger, he says: “I am the bread of life.” Read John 8:12: To those in darkness, he says: “I am the light of the world.” Read John 10:9: To those in need of protection or shelter o...
