September 8, 2022 Misunderstood Passages

Hi sisters and brother,

Do you know some of the most commonly misinterpreted passages in the Bible?  Here is one from Colossians 3:15 which says "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts...".  What is the context and meaning of this verse and how to apply it and not apply it in your everyday life?

Today's video by Sean McDowell: Misunderstood Verse Colossians 3:15

Peace in Greek is the word "Eirene" which means the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is. Therefore, peace is not a vague and subjective feeling, but a concrete promise.

1. Like Abraham (Hebrews 11:8), God doesn't give you and me all the information we feel we need to make important decisions.  Through His Word, His people, and the Spirit's leading, God often gives us clarity about one step at a time.  He gives us the wisdom to discern "the next right thing" and then expects us to step out in faith even if we don't "feel a peace" about where that next right thing might lead.

2. So long as we are obeying God's Word, the specific decisions themselves are not important.  Why? Because no matter what decision we make, the Lord's purpose prevails (Proverbs 19:21).  He is sovereign.  God cares deeply about what's going on in our hearts as we make decisions.  This means that when we are faced with big decisions, we have the freedom to choose.  We should take time to wisely evaluate important decisions, but at some point, we just have to make a choice, even if we don't "feel a peace" about the decision.

3. So long as we are obeying God's Word, we really can't make a "wrong" decision.  God will work "all things" for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).  We are to love Him.  Our responsibility is to learn His Word and obey His Word.

Stop waiting for an unreliable feeling of peace, and start relying on the certain peace that comes from recognizing that if God took care of our eternal needs, He will surely care for our temporal ones!

March 17, 2022 Our Father...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Are you wearing green today to avoid being pinched by leprechauns and other fairy creatures?  Or do you cling onto Psalm 84:11 today and everyday? Last week, our homework was to pick a Scripture verse to memorize.  Would you like to share your verse with the group?   Today, our study is on the first phrase of The Lord's Prayer. " Our Father in heaven , hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." Matthew 6:9=13 For centuries, believers have memorized and used the Lord's prayer as a tool for going to God in prayer. It was given by Jesus in response to his disciple's request for a lesson in prayer. It continues to be a lesson for us as well. Here is today's video lesson  Our Father Questions for Reflection 1. Have you memorized ...
