Merry Christmas! This is a picture from the San Antonio Riverwalk, a beautiful scene during Christmas. The Bible uses river, spring, and living water to illustrate the beautiful life that can be attained from the Lord. We will read four passages today and discuss:
1) When have you felt like stale water?
2) What happens when the river flows into the Dead Sea according to Ezekiel 47:8-9?
3) How is the river's water quality? What evidence do you see from Ezekiel 47:6-12?
4) Do you want the river to flow into your life? How can it be done? (Revelations 7:17, John 4:15)
5) Why do you think we are only sometimes like a watered garden in Isaiah 58:11? (Ezekiel 47:12)
6) How would you pray based on these Scriptures?
Ezekiel 47:6-12
6 He asked me, “Son of man, do you see this?” Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. 8 He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah,[a] where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh. 9 Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. 10 Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds—like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea. 11 But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. 12 Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
Revelations 7:17
For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’[b]
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’[c]
Isaiah 58:11
The Lord will always lead you,
satisfy you in a parched land,
and strengthen your bones.
You will be like a watered garden
and like a spring whose water never runs dry.
John 4:13-15
13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well[a] of water springing up in him for eternal life.” 15 “Sir,” the woman said to him, “give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and come here to draw water.”
