Dear Beloved:
How was your July 4th? Mine was great although HECO gave us a little surprise in the middle of the day! Peter and I came home from a little grocery shopping. While I was heating up lunch, the microwave suddenly stopped and the kitchen light went off! Well, that was the beginning of a four-hour power outage! Fortunately, my lunch got heated through and I had a hiking date immediately following lunch. The power outage resumed just before 5 pm when I returned home, thus, dinner was not disrupted! Whew! By the way, Kathy experienced the pitch darkness in the garage and texted me to give me a warning. Thanks Kathy!
Power outage is usually associated with lights out... pitch darkness. It's hard to imagine my house with no lights. It's even harder to imagine a world with no lights! We've been called to be the light of the world. We are called to shine our light, or Christian influence and hope, to those in darkness (Matthew 5:14-16). We should also help people in our life who are fighting their way out of brokenness (Galatians 6:1-2).
Today's Scriptures:
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. (Galatians 6:1-2)
Reflection:
What has it looked like for you to let your light shine around others?
In what ways have you ever been tempted to hide your light?
How does it feel to know that God can use you to restore those who are fighting their way out of brokenness?
