Aloha ladies,
This weekend, people all across the world will celebrate Mother's Day. My sister paid a surprise visit to my mom and will spend two weeks with my parents. I sent an interactive Mother's Day card to Mom 2 weeks ago. It is one of those that will light up and play music with the press of a button. I asked mom to press it once a day until Mother's Day to remind her how special she is! Moms are special because they are the backbone of every child's success! Our mom nurtures and guides us from day one; infusing hopes and dreams into our lives through her approvals and disapprovals--her words and actions. Every mother wants her child to be successful. What is your definition of success? Is it anything similar to John Maxwell's definition:
"Success is having those who are closest to me loving and respecting me the most." Therefore I must finish well:
- I will be better on the inside than the outside (character matters)
- I will add value to others (people matter)
- I will value humility over all other virtues (perspective matters)
- I will travel the high road to life and give people the benefit of doubt (attitude matters)
- I will teach others only what I believe (passion matters)
- I will make every day my masterpiece (today matters)
- I will love God with all of my being (God matters)

Discussion:
What is missing that is typically associated with success?
1) Read Philippians 4:8 "Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse." What are you filling your mind? Are they building godly character?
2) Read Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." In what way can we add value to others according to this verse? Can you share a short testimony?
3) Read Philippians 2:3 "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves," How well do you value others above yourself? Jesus valued us so much that he gave up his rights and entitlement. He was obedient to God to the point of death on our behalf. Does your humility involve giving up your rights so that others may benefit?
On your own this week, can you look for more Scriptures that teach us about the above expressions of success?
